Pakistan Vs England 3rd Test News

Monday, August 23, 2010

Pakistan have romped home to a thrilling win in the third test at the Oval, beating England by 4 wickets. Needing just 148 for victory, Pakistan made a horror start losing Yasir Hameed with just five on the board.
Captain Salman Butt then took charge taking the score past 100, but all things went haywire when Pakistan lost a few wickets in a hurry and brought back memories of a dramatic collapse. But Umar Akmal and Mohammad Amir safely negiotiated the England attack to secure a historic win.
England were outplayed in this match and their batsmen were made to look second grade on a surface that favoured batsmen. The Pakistani bowlers were disciplined and ensured they mounted pressure at crucial moments. Wahab Riaz had a particularly good debut. He picked up 5/63 on a day when batsmen were expected to dominate. He was also quick and bowled with Aggression.
The only positive for England is that Alastair Cook has got back into form. He struck a brilliant century in the second innings which played a vital role in getting a decent total on the board.
Pakistan will be delighted with this win and will have their tailds up ahead of the next test. England meanwhile will have a lot to think about, mainly in the batting department where everything went so wrong.
England : 233 and 222
Pakistan : 308 and148/6 (Butt 48, Yousuf 33, Farhat 33, Swann 3/50)
